The WordPress post revision system can be a life-saver, especially for larger websites with multiple contributors / editors. It can also be a seldom used hindrance, which will quickly chew up your database storage space.
Here are the steps for disabling, or reducing WordPress post revisions. There are a couple of important things to note.
Follow these simple steps:
- Make sure you add one of the following lines above the Absolute path code in your wp-config.php file
define('WP_POST_REVISIONS', 3); // number of revisions
define('WP_POST_REVISIONS', false); // disable revisions
The first line will reduce the revisions to 3, or whatever number you choose to add in there. The second line will completely disable post revisions.
Note: Don’t forget to add the line above the Absolute path line, otherwise this code just won’t work!
You can also change the auto save frequency by adding this to your wp-config.php
define('AUTOSAVE_INTERVAL', 86400 ); // seconds in 1 day
